Parents I am so sorry that I have not posted anything lately. We have been doing so much that I would love to share with you.
We have started Social Studies this month and we have been looking at artifacts from the past and creating timelines for a historical figure and are beginning to create a timeline of ourselves!
We began our unit by looking at photographs of "artifacts," which I am sure you recognize some of them. As a group they had to try to figure out what the item was, how they thought it was used and how old it was. Then they presented what they thought and I let them know what it really was. Many of the groups were either right on or very close. I was very impressed!!!

We then looked at an historical figure, Amelia Earhart. They learned so much about her and make so many connections to her life from things they read in books, or see on posters. As a class we created a timeline of her life in planes and decorated our bulletin board for the magnet tours going on. I think it came out so cute!
In Reading Mrs. Little and I took a look at our classes and we have similar rooms, so we decided to share students and be able to see all of them everyday in a guided reading group. We will be working with them on written comprehension and the skills we are teaching them in whole group.
We have been working on informational text and looking at text features. As a class I introduced text mapping, which is a strategy for students to look at an entire text at once and notice patterns, or even all the text features. We highlighted each type a different color, and then explained how the features helped us understand the text. Last week we did smaller ones in guided reading groups and they LOVED it!!
In Math we started this week doing lessons in two groups based on their needs. It allows me to challenge the students who get the concept and spend more time with the ones who struggle and need it broken down more. I have seen such great improvement in their math and see great potential for teaching this way.
I am seeing such growth in all my students and it just makes me so happy. I can't believe we are almost to half way through the year, it will be just around the corner. Everyone has been working hard and really showing me their best!! I am so fortunate to have the class I have and amazing parents who raised them!! Thank You!!!
